Pedagogical Approach

At Beacons Early Learning Haven, we provide a nurturing, child-centered environment that promotes well-being, development, and a lifelong love of learning. Rooted in Ontario’s ELECT and HDLH frameworks and inspired by the HighScope™ approach, our curriculum emphasizes child-led, adult-supported learning. Licensed under the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, we meet all Ministry of Education and City of Ottawa regulations.

Children plan, engage in, and review activities, fostering independence, problem-solving, and collaboration. With the help of Leon Beacon and his friends, learning is fun and immersive, cultivating leadership skills and curiosity.

Our curriculum is designed to cover a wide range of developmental areas, ensuring a holistic approach to early childhood education. Guided by our Learning Friends, children will experience an enriching and engaging learning journey.

Our core program is licensed to accommodate children in three (3) different groups as follows:

Toddlers:

Seedlings (18 months to 2.5 years old) with a ratio of 5 children to 1 educator

Sprouts (2.6 to 3.5 years old) with a ratio of 5 children to 1 educator

Preschoolers:

Explorers (3.6 to 4 years old) with a ratio of 8 children to 1 educator

Adventurers (4 to 5 years old) with a ratio of 8 children to 1 educator

School Age

Trailblazers (4 to 12 years old) with a ratio of 13 children to 1 educator.

Our school-age program, BEYOND, is the heart of our extended day offerings. Designed for children aged 4-12, it provides educational support, enrichment activities, and fosters academic excellence and social skills in a fun, supportive environment.
